Kendrick Lamar is the talk of the music world, fresh off the surprise release of his To Pimp A Butterfly sophomore LP. Despite a few issues with its confusing drop on iTunes this week, the project has made history with Spotify.

On Tuesday afternoon, TDE CEO Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith announced the album was streamed an eye-opening 9.6 million times globally on Monday. The number smashes the previous record held by Michael Bublé’s Christmas LP, now becoming the most streamed album on its first day.
Along with earning $44,160 in a single day globally, the 12-track album currently holds the No. 1 spot on iTunes. Back in February, Drake’s If You’re Reading This Too Late surprise project set record-breaking marks with Spotify, becoming the most-streamed project in one-week (17.3 million times) and one single-day in the U.S. (6.8 million streams).

Spotify To Pimp A Butterfly Downloader
UPDATE: Just like that, Kendrick breaks his own record. Also, early projections suggest To Pimp a Butterfly will sell between 350-375k copies in its first week, although that number is likely to grow as physical copies become more widely available. Either way, Kendrick’s a shoe-in for the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 next week.
